OPENING PRAYER - The National Alumnae Association of Spelman College Prayer by, Virginia Turner Dowell C'47 INTRODUCTION OF OLD AND NEW SISTERS REPORTS - Corresponding Secretary - Dana Smith - none - Treasure - Carolyn Evans * at least 15 members have paid the National Dues for NAASC for the 1999-2000 year. (Not all lifetime members were included in the count.) * 22 members have paid their local dues for 1999-2000 * $758.23 is in our current treasury OLD BUSINESS - meetings on 3rd Saturday of each month except for April, December, and the Summer Fundraiser month, due to previously planned alumnae events during those months. - Update Alumnae Information - Please notify Dorothea Carter (dcarter@vanguardproperties.com) on new sisters found in Houston - Updates on Houston Chapter website (http://naasc-houston.freeservers.com) are to be given to Kymberly Riggins (kymdr@rice.edu) - Dues (National and Local) for fiscal year 2000-2001 will be collected from April 1, 2000 - June 30, 2000. See Carolyn Evans (cevans6867@aol.com) for more information. ($50 National, $25 Local) Any dues paid before April 1 are for the CURRENT YEAR. - The February Clothing drive has been extended to March. Please bring any unwanted clothes and items that you would like to donate to the Star of Hope, a shelter for abused women, to the March 18th meeting. NEW BUSINESS - NAASC Constitution and By-Laws Available - Kymberly Riggins will scan the bylaws and make them accessible via the Chapter Website. - Angela Cox has volunteered to help develop the chapter bylaws which will function in conjuction with the National By-Laws - Dorothea Carter distributed the current telephone list of the Houston Chapter Alumnae for any corrections and additions. Contact her to make sure that she has your current information. - Community Service Project - Our next community service project will be held on March 25 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. More information will be coming via e-mail from Tiffany Mayo (tmayo@ect.enron.com), our Community Service Chair. - Inter-Alumni Council liason needed - The Inter-Alumni Council, a collection of Alumni representatives from United Negro College Fund Schools is in need of Spelman sisters to represent Spelman at their monthly meetings here in Houston. The dea was suggested that we do a tag team. Any interested parties, please contact Dorothea Carter (dcarter@vanguardproperties.com). - Summer Fundraiser - Sunday, July 9, 2000 we will be having our annual summer fundraiser at the Ensemble Theater. There will be brunche (1-2:40) and a play (3:00), entitled, 'Bourbon At The Border", written by Spelman alumnae and former Spelman professor Pearl Cleage. Note: the play may not be appropriate for children. Tickets are $35 and include brunch and the play. Ticket distribution will be during the Founders' Day activity in April. Deadline for Ticket submission is tentatively scheduled for May 15. - Founder's Day - On Sunday, April 9, 2000 we will celebrate Spelman's 119th birthday by attending service at Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ and immediately following, brunch ($17.50) at Cafe Noche. - Black History Month Reading - Tiffany Mayo mentioned that Barnes and Noble on Buffalo Speedway and Kirby will be having a Black History Reading tonight (Saturday, February 17, 2000) from 7 - 9 p.m. - NAASC Website - Kymberly Riggins is spearheading the project of proposing to the NAASC, their very own website.
