	We have $927.67 in our account.
	Local Dues are $25 a year, payable to 
		NAASC-Houston.
	National Dues are $50 a year, payable

Update Alumnae Information
	Please notify Dorothea Cartner about 
	any new sisters found in Houston.

Spelman Spirits Kick-Off Meeting
	Those who missed the Kick-Off meeting 
	missed a great time.  Thanks to those
	who made it and special thanks to 
	Leslie Bowe Wells C'89 for hosting 
	the meeting at her home.

Morehouse School Daze Dance
	The Dance will be held on Saturday, 
	November 13, 1999.  

New Officers
	Congratulations new officers.

Scholarship Recipients - Dana Smith reporting
	We awarded two $300 book scholarships 
	to Houstonites Rosella White and Joyce 
	Iyamu, first year students at Spelman.

	Wanda Sharif suggested the name Sengela
	(Sin-gay-lah), Swahili for "to welcome
	and embrace", as a name for the book 
	scholarship.  All other suggestions are 
	welcome.
	
San Marcos Fundraising
	We are planning a fundraising bus trip 
	to San Marcos before Christmas.  Carolyn 
	checked on the buses and was quoted a 
	rate of $713.80 for a 55 passenger bus
	on December 4th or 11th.  The suggested 
	price to charge each passenger is $20.

	A suggestion was made to check on the 
	cost for the trip to be on November 6th.

New Business

Christmas Party
	This Christmas Party will be held at the 
	home of Angela Cox, C'81.  It is a pot 
	luck dinner and Angela says warm your 
	ovens for the event.  Also, be prepared 
	to bring children's gifts to give away.

Recruitment Reception
	A Spelmam Admissions Counselor will be 
	on hand to host a reception for 
	prospective students on Sunday, 
	September 26th at Pilgrim 
	Congregational Church of Christ at 
	3115 Blodgett from 3-5 p.m..

College Fairs
	Various high schools in the area are 
	holding college fairs.  If you are 
	interested in representing Spelman at 
	a high school near you, please contact 
	Dorothea Carter for information.

	If you have agreed to represent Spelman 
	at a high school college fair near you, 
	please contact the school to confirm 
	your attendance and the time.  Contact 
	Dorothea to pick up the recruitment 
	materials.
